SONOTEC represented at ECNDT 2026 in Verona

ECNDT 2026 SONOTEC team at exhibition booth

From June 15 to 19, 2026, SONOTEC participated in the European Conference on Non-Destructive Testing (ECNDT) in Verona, Italy. Recognized as one of the leading international events for non-destructive testing (NDT), the conference brought together experts from industry, research, and technology.

This year's ECNDT attracted participants from more than 50 countries. The extensive program featured over 800 scientific and technical contributions, complemented by an exhibition with numerous technology providers. SONOTEC exhibited at the event with its own booth and actively contributed to the scientific program with both a poster presentation and an oral speech.

Exchange and insights into current applications

The company’s exhibition booth focused on solutions for Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT), Air-Coupled Ultrasonic Testing (ACUT), and ultrasonic rail inspection. SONOTEC also showcased its new device SONO-PR 10 for the first time. Using the system, live measurements were performed on a defective 3D-printed sample, demonstrating how material defects can be detected without contact using air-coupled ultrasound. The live demonstration provided visitors with practical insights into the capabilities and potential of air-coupled ultrasonic testing.

 

Contributions to the scientific program

As part of the scientific program, Hardware Development Engineer Emma Black presented current research in a poster session and was available for technical discussions. The poster focused on ultrasound-based inspection using innovative materials and technologies, highlighting their potential for future NDT applications.

Business Unit Director Andreas Ogrzewalla also presented the technical paper "Ultrasonic Transducers for Non-Destructive Testing Without Lead-Based Piezo-Ceramics?". His speech addressed the development and evaluation of lead-free alternatives to piezoelectric materials, covering both material properties and the technical challenges associated with their integration into ultrasonic transducers. It also discussed the potential impact of these materials on future non-destructive testing applications.

Participation in ECNDT 2026 provided SONOTEC with valuable impulses for the further development of its technologies while strengthening international collaboration with partners from research and industry. The technical discussions and insights gained during the conference will contribute to future innovations in ultrasonic technology.

Steffi Lorenz has been working as a Marketing Manager at SONOTEC GmbH in Halle (Saale) since 2022, where she is responsible for technical B2B marketing within the Ultrasound Transducer business unit. In this role, she develops and coordinates marketing and communication activities for innovative ultrasound solutions – ranging from content and product marketing to campaign planning and close collaboration with sales and product management.

With many years of experience in B2B marketing and strategic communication of technical products, she is skilled at translating complex topics into clear and audience-focused messaging.
