Lightweight design meets high-tech ultrasound

At the end of last year, Andreas Bodi was on site at ZHAW in Winterthur to set up and commission the SONOAIR® air-coupled ultrasonic testing system.
Prior to delivery, the system successfully passed the FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) at SONOTEC. On site, this was followed by the SAT (Site Acceptance Test), including first measurements on reference samples.
Project status at a glance:
- Fully operational within one day
- Successful initial measurements
- Very satisfied customer
The system uses air-coupled ultrasound with CF400 phased-array probes. This technology enables contactless, non-destructive testing with high resolution – ideal for non-contact and contamination-free detection of even the smallest defects such as delaminations in lightweight structures for aviation and aerospace.
The IMPE Institute of Materials and Process Engineering at ZHAW combines applied research with industrial practice – a perfect environment for modern NDT technologies.
We are proud to have implemented this future-oriented project together!
