The contactless pipeline monitor SONOPIPE 13 enables product differentiation in pipelines carrying liquids. Similar to densimetry, various liquid products can be differentiated from each other by measuring the velocity of sound. Using the SONOPIPE 13 it is possible to detect changes in batches of products flowing through pipelines carrying numerous varying product types. For example, a change from petrol to diesel or, in the case of crude oil pipelines, a change from one type of crude oil to another can be detected. Furthermore, the ultrasonic sensor also monitors the passage of pigs during cleaning and testing operations in pipelines used for the transport of e.g. crude oil, liquefied gas or water.

One advantage of our simple and reliable method is that the sensors are attached to the outside of the pipeline and are therefore not subject to wear. Furthermore, all risks associated with the opening up of apertures in the pipeline and consequent damages are a thing of the past.

Installation and operation is simple and possible without any interruptions to operations. The sensors have been granted ATEX certification.
